Dry Break Couplings
Smartflow’s range of dry break couplings are aimed to aid safe, efficient and environmentally friendly transfer of fluids in safety critical, aggressive environments. Making completely Spill-Free connections and disconnections with minimal parts and no additional valves required mean the Smartflow systems can save the customer time and money.
Produced in the UK, these specialist couplings meet the challenges and solve problems for a number of industries all over the world: Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Food & Drink, Road & Rail, Marine and anywhere where spillages need to be minimised or fluid transfer efficiency maximised.
Following TEAM SPEC and STANAG 3756 standards, Smartflow’s range of dry break couplings are interchangeable with other manufacturers in the industry.
How do they work?
The couplings use a simple integrated poppet system, that activates as the female (Hose) unit is connected to the male (Tank) unit.
As the female coupling easily fits over the male adaptor, it is then twisted clockwise a 1/3 of a turn and locks in place - opening the integrated poppets in both halves and releasing the flow. The reverse anti-clockwise turn will unlock the couplings and instantly shut off flow with zero (well very, very close to) spillage.
1"
Smartflow's 1" (56mm) couplings are the smallest in the range and used on smaller chemical hose lines between ¾” and 1 ¼”. This size comes without handles due to the small size and are easy to operate with the slim grip design. They can be well suited to IBC applications where zero spillage is required.

2"
Smartflow's 2" (70mm) couplings are a very common size that can be used in many industries such as Chemical, Road Tanker, Adblue and Food & Drink. With a single or double handle option, these couplings are very ergonomic and easy to use. Like the rest of the range, they follow TEAM SPEC and STANAG 3756 standards so interchange with other dry break couplings.

2.5"
Smartflow's 105mm couplings come with either 2.5” or 3” end connection and are the middle size of the dry break range. Commonly used for road and rail tanker industries as well as aviation, there are also a wide range of opportunities for this size coupling.

3"
Smartflow's 119mm couplings are slightly larger than the 105mm variation, which of course means higher flow rates. These are also common in the road and rail tanker industries, plus marine, petroleum and Oil & Gas. The 119mm couplings come with 2 handles as standard for ease of connection.

4"
Smartflow's largest standard size dry break coupling is a 4” or 164mm coupling. These are commonly used in offshore Oil & Gas or marine bunkering applications where high flow rates and pressures are required. Both the stainless steel and aluminium versions of this product are rated at 25 Bar Max Operating Pressure, with the aluminium version weighing only 9kg. The hose units at this size come with either 2 handles or a wheel.
